In the beginning God spoke the Word And the world heard and, obeying, Sprang into existence, Ready for love. But then we, eating from the tree Without Him Made the world a grim place, Fleeing from His face, Embracing death instead of God. But He, Wishing to set us free, Embraced our death upon the tree, Which was grim For Him, But revealed to us the tear-and-bloodstained face of God, Which is Love. And now, We know not how, But we are free As we look up and see The one we hung upon the tree Alive and giving us His flesh, Daily afresh, That we may eat with Him And meet with Him In life and love. And the world heard— And hears—our word: Our cry of “Christ is risen!” And has sprung into spring, No longer odd or grim But filled with God, in Him Blooming with life again, And full of love.
Christ Is Risen!
